Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan, in collaboration with the Government of Japan, has inaugurated seven additional water filtration plants to provide safe drinking water to underserved communities. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Akamatsu Shuichi and Vice President of Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan Syed Ihsan Ullah Waqas. President Alkhidmat Foundation Central Punjab Ikram-ul-Haq Subhani and other officials were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Waqas expressed gratitude to the government and people of Japan for their continued support, stating that the Japan-assisted projects were not only ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water but were also strengthening the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Japan.

He said that Alkhidmat Foundation is currently operating 308 water filtration plants across the country, providing clean drinking water to millions on a daily basis. Under Alkhidmat’s WASH programme, a total of 7.61 million people are benefiting daily from clean water facilities, he added. Mr Waqas further said that Alkhidmat Foundation was actively engaged in serving humanity in multiple sectors, and the provision of safe drinking water remained a key component of its mission.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi appreciated Alkhidmat Foundation for the effective, transparent and timely implementation of the project. He said that access to clean drinking water played a vital role in protecting public health, as contaminated water remained a major cause of waterborne diseases in many communities.

The ambassador said that access to safe drinking water was a fundamental human right and a priority of Japan’s assistance policy towards Pakistan. He reaffirmed the Government of Japan’s commitment to continuing its support for the welfare of the Pakistani people and expressed hope that the project would further strengthen bilateral cooperation and friendship between the two countries
