The devastating fire at Gul Plaza has left Karachi in mourning, but amidst the smoke and tragedy, the spirit of service remains unbroken. For more than 36 consecutive hours, Alkhidmat Foundation volunteers have remained steadfast on the ground, providing critical support to those fighting the blaze and searching for survivors.
Supporting the Heroes on the Frontlines
Firefighting and rescue operations are physically exhausting, especially in the intense heat and toxic smoke of a Grade 3 fire. While fire tenders battle the flames, the rescuers themselves need fuel to keep going.
Recognizing this, the Alkhidmat WASH Program has deployed dedicated water vans to the site. These units are ensuring a continuous supply of clean drinking water for:
- Firefighters working in extreme temperatures.
- Rescue Teams navigating the structural debris.
- Volunteers assisting in crowd control and logistics.
A Commitment That Doesn’t Sleep
In a disaster of this scale, the first few hours are critical, but the following days are where endurance is tested. By remaining active for over 36 hours, Alkhidmat Foundation has shown that its commitment to Karachi does not have an expiration time. From the moment the first alarm was raised, the foundation’s relief teams have been a constant, calming presence in the middle of the chaos.
