It’s easy to joke that the younger generation only cares about TikTok trends and screen time. But this past World Environment Day, a huge group of young volunteers completely blew us away.
Alkhidmat put out a call for a Grand Beach Clean Drive, and honestly? The youth didn’t just show up they brought serious energy.
Getting Our Hands Dirty
If you’ve been to the beach recently, you already know the deal. It looks beautiful from a distance, but once you get closer, you see the plastic cups, snack wrappers, and bottle caps buried in the sand. It’s pretty frustrating to see.
Instead of just complaining about it online, these guys grabbed gloves, picked up trash bags, and got to work under the hot sun. There was no complaining just music playing, people laughing, and a lot of teamwork.
“Honestly, I usually sleep in on weekends. But being out here with everyone, filling up bags of plastic… it actually feels like we’re doing something that matters.” — Rahul, 20, volunteer
The Big Takeaways From the Day
-
It’s Contagious: Beachgoers actually stopped what they were doing to ask what we were doing, and a few even asked for bags to help out.
-
Eye-Opening: You don’t realize how much plastic is out there until you’re the one bending down to pick it up. It makes you think twice about buying that bottled water next time.
-
Good Vibes Only: It felt less like a chore and more like a giant hangout with a great purpose.
Small Steps, Big Change
Look, we know that cleaning up one beach won’t fix the whole world overnight. But it’s a start. A cleaner future happens when regular people especially the younger generation decide they’ve had enough and step up to lead.
A massive thank you to everyone who woke up early and helped out. You guys made the beach look beautiful again, and you proved that change starts with just a bit of effort and a lot of heart.
