In the remote and rugged landscape of Lakki Marwat, water scarcity has historically dictated the rhythm of daily life. For generations, the residents of Village Toor Talah faced a harsh reality where basic survival required immense physical effort. The region’s arid climate and lack of localized water infrastructure made every day a quest for a fundamental human necessity.
The heaviest burden of this crisis fell on the village’s women and children. Every morning, long before the heat reached its peak, they would set out on foot across unforgiving terrain to fetch water from distant, often contaminated sources. Walking miles under the blazing sun while carrying heavy containers was physically exhausting and mentally draining.
This daily ordeal had widespread consequences for the entire community:
-
Barriers to Education: Young children, especially girls, were forced to forfeit their schooling to assist their families with water collection.
-
Health Risks: The water retrieved from unprotected sources was frequently contaminated, leading to chronic waterborne diseases that disproportionately affected infants and the elderly.
-
Loss of Dignity and Time: Hours that could have been spent on productive labor, family care, or community development were lost to the endless routine of walking for water.
The Intervention: Alkhidmat Foundation Steps In
Recognizing the urgent need for a sustainable and immediate intervention, Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan prioritized Village Toor Talah for a targeted clean water project. Following thorough ground assessments to determine the most central and accessible location, the team successfully installed a heavy-duty Community Hand Pump right in the heart of the village.
This installation represents far more than an assembly of pipes and iron. It stands as a symbol of relief, security, and hope. By placing a dependable water source directly within the community, Alkhidmat Foundation has permanently eliminated the need for grueling daily journeys across the desert landscape.
Sustainable Impact: Changing Lives by the Numbers
The newly installed hand pump has created a ripple effect of positive change throughout the neighborhood, delivering long-term benefits that extend far beyond simple access to clean water.
Continuous Clean Water for 131 Individuals
Over 130 community members now have round-the-clock access to fresh, safe drinking water without worrying about seasonal dry spells or distant travel.

Freedom and Opportunities for Women
Women in the village are freed from hours of backbreaking labor each day, allowing them time to focus on family wellbeing, domestic affairs, and personal health.
A Brighter Future for School-Going Children
